It’s a first step on the journey for this local community and is an ideal way to show the demand for such a facility. Swim Ireland CEO Sarah Keane commented: “We are delighted to be working with the Community Pool for West Wicklow campaign group to bring the pop-up pool to Blessington. The Baltinglass Municipal District is the only Municipal District in Wicklow without a public or private swimming pool, resulting in generations having missed the chance to learn how to swim. The pop-up pool is also equipped with a ramp and hoist making it accessible for many members of the community. We hope that this will bring our community a step closer to the development of a permanent swimming pool and sports complex here in west Wicklow.” “The pop-up pool will give people in our community the opportunity to learn how to swim, exercise and stay active this winter. There are also floatation devices available for children, which allows them to float until they build up their confidence. “The pop-up pool is only 1.2 metres deep so people can stand on the bottom if they don’t feel too confident. The Women’s Shed have booked classes and there will also be adult classes and special autism classes. Lots of local schools have booked sessions as well and there are a whole range of classes on offer, from young beginner children to more advanced swimmers. “You can book online through Swim Ireland or through the Community Pool for West Wicklow web and Facebook pages. Tuesday morning when there were already a lot of people enjoying the pool. “It was great to see so many people in attendance at the launch, and there were a lot of public representatives present as well.
